The Buzz About the Book!

The Buzz About the Book!

Stuart Shanker’s new book, Self-Reg: How to Help Your Child (and You) Break the Stress Cycle and Successfully Engage with Life created an instant buzz when it was released on June 21. In fact, on that very day, the first day it was available for purchase, Dr. Shanker’s new book was already the #9 best-selling book on  Self-Reg was actually #1 in three categories: child development, stress management and applied psychology. It was simultaneously published in three different countries (Canada, U.S. and the U.K next week) with releases of Self-Reg in Brazil, Czech Republic, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, Poland, and Taiwan over the coming months. That’s unprecedented for a Canadian parenting book.

That initial splash about Self-Reg might have been partly related to the glowing advance praise from people like Edward Hallowell, author of Driven to Distraction: Identifying and Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder, Catherine Steiner-Adair, author of The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age and British education commentator, Sir Anthony Seldon, co-founder of Action for Happiness.

And the media buzz about Self-Reg actual started one day prior to publication when Dr. Shanker was featured in a Q & A story in Canada’s national newspaper, the Globe and Mail and had blogs published on Psychology Today and Psychology Today designated Stuart’s blog an essential read, which meant, among other things, that it was featured on the home page for 24 hours. By June 22, he had been interviewed by Today’ Parent Magazine, and was booked for live appearances on The Morning Show on Global TV (June 23) and CTV’s The Social on July 14. The Canadian publisher, Penguin Random House Canada,  will also broadcast a live interview with Stuart via a Periscope (Twitter’s new video streaming platform) on Thursday, June 24 at 10 am (EST).

US- based coverage has started as well, with the publication of a particularly interest Q & A piece on written by John Valeri, the “Hartford Books Examiner,” and yet another blog posting on the website of Maria Shriver, the American journalist, author and former First Lady of California.

We will provide further updates on the buzz about Self-Reg in the coming weeks.
