The tumultuous year 2020 has seen parents and educators not only juggling and struggling to adapt to new realities, but also left them pondering how best to talk to children about global issues and social justice. In this half-day event, Stuart Shanker and Susan Hopkins of Self-Reg Global & The MEHRIT Centre will explore and address these challenges through the lens of Shanker Self-Reg®.
“The key to a JUST SOCIETY lies in the manner in which it self-regulates,” according to Dr. Stuart Shanker. But what does Dr. Shanker mean by “self-regulation” and what does it look like, sound like, and feel like at a societal level? How do we support children to develop the understanding of their roles in a JUST SOCIETY that values empathy, equity, unity, and wellbeing for all.
Dr. Shanker will kick things off with a compelling and inspirational keynote that shows how neuroscience can inform the ways we encourage children to become engaged in building a JUST SOCIETY. In the second half Dr. Hopkins will anchor a full-circle session that will situate Dr. Shanker’s lessons within the context of the 5 practices of Self-Reg and offer practical applications educators and parents can use as we prepare for a fresh new year in 2021.
