We usually think of the Prosocial Domain in positive terms. It’s the domain to some of the most noble human attributes: empathy, kindness, caring, helping others. Prosocial attributes are what make us truly good.

Yes, but… Enter the Prosocial Stressors

Prosocial feelings and behaviour—feelings of empathy, for example—are expensive. And our prosocial shortcomings can produce stressful feelings like, guilt, shame, even helplessness when we feel empathy but are unable to make things better.
