I was first introduced to The MEHRIT Centre in 2018 through my work at a French-first language school board and my position as a Consultant specializing in self-regulation in Early Years. Since that time, I have taken every opportunity to learn with and from this community whether through the Foundations Program, last year’s summer symposium, the YouTube channel, the blogs and now the Facilitator’s Course. My Self-Reg learning has truly been a paradigm shift, changing how I view the students and adults with whom I work at the school board, but also my clients and their families as a Psychotherapist in private practice. That being said, Self-Reg starts with ‘self’, and I can’t lend my calm to others, if I’m not in a state of calm myself.

I created the following video about a recent visit to a big box store. On what would have otherwise been a normal day of running errands, I applied a Self-Reg lens to my experience and ended up reflecting on the impact of stressors, both hidden and overt, on my energy and tension levels while shopping. Each step of the Shanker Method is a key that unlocks another step. It is not linear or finite. It’s a lifelong process and I’m forever grateful to be a part of this community.
