Self-Reg Misconception: “Self-Reg is Just Another Way of Doing Functional Behaviour Analysis”

Tree roots covered in fallen leafs

Self-Reg is often misunderstood as just another form of Functional Behavior Analysis (FBA), but it goes much deeper. While both approaches aim to understand and address behaviors, Self-Reg focuses on the underlying causes, considering relationships, context and stressors rather than merely identifying behaviors. This approach challenges assumptions and digs deeper into the “why” behind behaviors, providing a more holistic understanding.

Self-Reg is not a replacement for FBA but a complementary approach that takes behavior analysis to a deeper level, emphasizing reflection, reframing, and understanding the energy, stress, and tension underlying behaviors by constantly asking “why”
