Our 5th Self-Reg Misconception in the series is the belief that simply adding tools like bikes, adaptive seating, or quiet corners means you’ve already implemented Self-Reg in your school. While these tools can be a great start, they are just pieces of the much larger puzzle.
If you’ve tried some of these tools like bikes and adaptive seating, and things haven’t quite worked as expected, there’s so much more to explore in the process of Self-Reg.
Self-Reg is an individualized process that goes much deeper than just adding a few accommodations. Self-Reg involves five key steps, and understanding them all is crucial for true success: Reframing behaviour, recognizing stressors, reducing stressors, reflecting and restoring.
This misconception is like thinking you’ve experienced an entire Italian meal after only tasting the risotto—there’s a lot more to it! In this video, we dive into why simply using tools like bikes or quiet corners isn’t enough and how to fully embrace the Self-Reg process. If you’re curious about how to take Self-Reg further, we encourage you to watch the full video to gain deeper insight and learn how to implement it effectively in your school.
