Self-Reg Schools: Education Assistants

cart full of children's library books

Education Assistants (EAs) are often the steady presence that helps children feel safe, supported, and included in their learning environment. Self-Reg EAs understand the critical difference between Self-Reg and self-control—recognizing that true regulation is about balance, stress, and underlying mechanisms, not simply “managing” behavior. They see stress behavior for what it is, and instead of controlling, they work to uncover hidden stressors and reduce them so that children can thrive. They know their role is not about creating dependency but about offering just enough support and encouragement to help children take the next step toward independence and inclusion.

What makes Self-Reg EAs truly remarkable is their curiosity, collaboration, and commitment to relationships. They partner closely with teachers, bringing a unique perspective to problem-solving and often leading the way in Self-Reg practice within a school. By building strong, respectful relationships in every direction—360 degrees—they help create a school environment where every child has the opportunity to flourish.
