The Arc of the Day Matters More Than We Think
Picture a kindergarten classroom at 2:00 in the afternoon. Or a middle school hallway right after lunch on a Friday. Or a Grade 3 class in the third week of November.
If you have spent time in schools or early childhood settings, you know that some moments in the day are reliably harder than others. Most educators chalk this up to experience and manage as best they can. Self-Reg offers something more useful: a way to understand why the arc of the day matters so much, and how to design it with the biology of stress in mind.
The Biological Domain and the Arc of the Day
Children’s energy and tension states do not stay constant throughout the day. They are shaped by movement, rest, transitions, light, nourishment, sensory load, and a dozen other factors that fall under what Self-Reg calls the biological domain.
When that domain is not being tended to, it makes everything else harder, not because the children are being difficult, but because their nervous systems are depleted.

Practical Conversations for Educators and Early Childhood Professionals
The symposium has dedicated sessions to this on Day 2, one looking at arc-of-the-day planning in early childhood and one focused on K to 12. These are not theoretical conversations. They are practical, grounded in real settings, and built around the kinds of questions educators and early childhood professionals actually face.
Questions Educators Are Asking
What does it look like to design transitions that reduce stress instead of amplifying it? When in the day do most children hit their limit, and what can we do about that proactively? How do we build restoration into a schedule that already feels overfull?
These are the conversations we want to be having. And at the symposium, you get to have them with people who are working through the same challenges in their own settings every day.
