Little ones walk complex paths

Some experiences so adverse

Limbic brakes are activated

Outlooks then brittle or terse.

So much weight on their shoulders

In their emotional backpack

We can lighten these pressing loads

It’s the least we can give back.

Get to problems before entrenched

Each child deeply understand

Know when brakes are activated

And how best to lend a hand.

Be patient and understanding

Connected to the why and how

Ask, “What is it that

Your brain needs right now?”

Lay foundations for entering school

But the message across the nation

Should be empowering little minds

And not just schoolification.
