Self-Reg Misconception: “We can’t reduce Self-Reg stressors, they’re simply part of life.”

colourful impressions of many people walking in a city

Misconception eleven in this series focuses on the stressors that children face in school and how we, as educators and caregivers, can best support them. The misconception lies in the idea that kids must simply “suck it up” and develop coping strategies to deal with the stresses they face in a classroom environment. However, the reality is that many of the stresses children encounter are not inevitable or unchangeable.

In this video, we challenge the idea that stress is something children just have to endure, and instead, we discuss how we can actively reduce the stresses within the school environment. It’s about shifting from a focus on coping to fostering self-regulation, self-awareness, and creating an environment where children can thrive despite challenges.
